An interplay of inputs and outputs transforms White Bay Power Station into a site for deep listening. Audiences are invited to engage sensorially and somatically with a live improvised electroacoustic score transmitted via FM radio and broadcast through HD headphones. Experimental song, embodied sonic gesture and live sound design create channels of audio attunement, recalling the precision of workers who once calibrated the station’s energy systems. Balance, care and the bay deep below give rise to new forms of energy and harmonic force through the sensing of sound and the veneration of place. The mystery of radio waves connects the audience to varied modes of engagement across the Boiler House. Walking, sitting or exploring large-scale artworks in search of the source of live sound, unfolds an interactive event score, where listening itself is the choreography and the audience, in turn, is central to the work.
