Sue Jo Wright
Sue Jo Wright, a Deaf artist from Dharug and Bidjigal Country, works in textiles, photography, and video storytelling. Her practice centres on Auslan, providing a personal view into the Deaf experience. Her layered visuals explore identity, belonging, language, and culture.
Sue’s work has been exhibited widely across Australia. In 2024, she presented her first solo exhibition, Signs of Time, at Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf. Her other exhibition highlights include Dinner Table Syndrome at the Australian Design Centre, ArtScreen at the Museum of Contemporary Art, and Face Me: the art of Deafhood at Lismore Regional Gallery. She has also participated in digital and disability-led exhibitions such as Headquarters, IDANCE and Flow Festival. Her work has been profiled by NAVA, featured in The Artist Files, and published across multiple media outlets, including InStyle and TAFE NSW stories.
Sue is a six-time finalist in the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award and recipient of numerous recognitions, including the Australian Design Centre Award and the TAFE NSW Creative Design and Ideation Award.
In addition to her arts practice, Sue is a respected consultant and educator.
