Peter Kennedy
Born & Lives in:
Australia
Peter Kennedy has been recognised as an influential experimental artist since the early 1970s. His solo exhibition at Gallery A was the first in Australia to present neon works. At the same time he co-founded the artist-run Inhibodress Gallery (active from late 1970 to late 1972) where his experimentation across diverse media resulted in some of Australia ‘s earliest exhibitions using sound, video, film, performance and conceptualism as primary modes of expression – approaches that have continued to inform his practice over time. By the late 1970s Kennedy had expanded his work to include photography, drawing and sculpture, and later architectural interventions. In his current project-driven practice, he engages with personal trajectories and socio-political concerns, often set against large-scale narratives of history or geography.
