Born in 1938, Nil Yalter has dedicated her lifelong artistic practice, spanning over six decades, to exploring the experiences of individuals whose basic rights are disregarded by society, including migrants, workers, and women. Employing a range of media and materials such as drawing, photography, performance, video, and installation, Yalter adopts a research-based, experimental approach, drawing on methodologies derived from various disciplines, chiefly anthropology and literature. Recognised as one of the pioneers of feminist art worldwide, Yalter’s works were among the earliest examples of video, installation, and interactive digital media in European art.
Presentation at the 25th Biennale of Sydney was made possible with generous support from Trampoline Association in support of the French art scene, with generous assistance from French Australian Cultural Exchange Foundation, and assistance from the Embassy of France.
