Massinissa Selmani was born in Algiers, Algeria, and currently lives between France and Algeria. Drawing is the medium central to Selmani’s practice. His works, often presented as delicate pencil drawings, depict unlikely scenes using absurdist humour. Employing an elegant simplicity in his works, the subjects of Selmani’s short animations, printed images, objects and installations are often sourced from news or press clippings. As part of his practice, Selmani is pursuing a long-term research project that investigates the potential of drawing as a documentary form.
Presentation at the 25th Biennale of Sydney was made possible by Rubaiya Qatar, Qatar Museums Authority with generous support from Trampoline Association in support of the French art scene, generous assistance from French Australian Cultural Exchange Foundation, and assistance from the Embassy of France.
