Angélica Serech
Born & Lives in:
Guatemala (Maya Kaqchikel)

Angélica Serech is a Mayan Kaqchiquel textile artist from San Juan Comalapa, Guatemala whose practice is rooted in historical memory, her hands ‘guided by ancestral knowledge’. Through unique compositions and patterns, Serech reshapes the rich weaving traditions she has inherited through matrilineal lines to create a personal language that explores identity, in dialogue with community. Using experimental looms, alternative materials and adaptations of traditional practices, she produces vibrant, large-scale works that push the limits of textile. For Serech, the act of weaving is a daily reclamation of cultural rights and an expression of gratitude, history, personal resistance and freedom.
