Suara Dance Performance
Join us on Friday 31 May for a free performance by Suara Dance as they respond to Citra Sasmita’s major installation as part of the Biennale of Sydney: Ten Thousand Suns at the Chau Chak Wing Museum.
Sasmita’s work uses traditional Kamasan painting to reclaim the female figure as an active de-colonial agent challenging the exotic aesthetic heritage of Baliseering. Through contemporary movement and traditional song, Suara Dance will take the audience on a ritualised journey, exploring the roles of women as a communal group and Individuals, woven into Indonesian culture.
The performance will bring a new perspective to the works as well as provide a unique opportunity to see live dance within the Museum.
