Enter the sonic world of Valya Ying-Li Hooi, aka YL Hooi and you will find yourself immersed in a mystical, dream-like haze. Hooi’s dub-inflected downtempo, constructed with bass guitar, synth and trumpet drones is entirely unique, resolved by her elegant but vocals. Joining her is the project of collaborator Tarquin Manek known as Silzedrek, which he conceived to explore clarinet
and bass clarinet in a live setting utilising the Eastern European and Roma sonorities of the artist’s heritage.
