The Biennale of Sydney stands in solidarity with artists, cultural workers and communities who are committed to dignity, safety and wellbeing for all. In line with our Humanitarian Statement, the Biennale has zero tolerance for any form of racism including Islamophobia and antisemitism, transphobia, homophobia, misogyny and all forms of discrimination. We do not tolerate bullying or harassment in any form, whether within our workplaces, our programs, or the broader public discourse connected to our work.

We affirm the rights of artists and cultural workers to express their personal views on their own platforms within Australian law, recognising that diverse perspectives and lived experiences are fundamental to artistic practice and cultural dialogue. While the Biennale cannot control or mediate all public commentary, including media and online discourse, we remain committed to supporting artists, fostering thoughtful engagement, and creating spaces for art that encourage understanding, reflection, and openness.

Our commitment is to deliver a world-class event that not only upholds Sydney’s reputation for artistic excellence, but also allows us to overcome our differences and unite in the shared joy of art. The best way to combat division and hatred is through more dialogue, not less. Creating space for these complex intersections is the most productive path forward.
