FUNPARK Established 2012 in Mt Druitt, Australia

FUNPARK is a sustained arts engagement project presented in and for the Mt Druitt community. Since its premiere at 2014 Sydney Festival, FUNPARK has developed into a sustained collective impact project, led by a coalition of five acclaimed companies: Blacktown City Council through Blacktown Arts; Bidwill Uniting; CuriousWorks; Learning Ground; and PYT Fairfield and residents. FUNPARK 2020 will highlight the narratives of Mt Druitt youth and its residents through unique and critical expression of Australian cultures.

The amusement parks that once graced Mt Druitt are long gone, but in collaboration with local residents, local artists and companies, FUNPARK has been welcoming back the crowds for a different kind of ride. Developed with local communities, FUNPARK merges contemporary art practices with local experiences.

Presented on site at Bidwill Square and surrounds for the 20th Biennale of Sydney, FUNPARK composes  a series of works including but not limited to: a First Nations welcome and performance; a participatory augmented reality adventure; a performative press conference; a garden party; and walking tours on which to discuss FUNPARKS’ pioneering strategies and seven-year history of cultural engagement in the region.

FUNPARK is a mini arts festival celebrating the culture, people and lived experience of the community of Bidwill, Mt Druitt. Now in its seventh year, FUNPARK once again invites audiences to come and experience unique cultural exchange.
