Established 2013 in Sydney, Australia

Sara Mansour is a Muslim lawyer and artist who cofounded and directs the Bankstown Poetry Slam. Bankstown Poetry Slam is renowned for providing a platform and nurturing safe space for all people, particularly marginalised communities to express themselves through the medium of spoken word poetry. In addition to running the slam (after business hours), in recent years Sara has given a TEDx talk, featured in a documentary and won a couple of awards along the way. Last year, she directed Brave New Word, the first youth spoken word poetry festival.

Bankstown’s iconic poetry slam will take residence at Cockatoo Island for an electrifying night of spoken word from Western Sydney’s best writer-poets.
