We’re thrilled to share that Barbara Moore, Chief Executive Officer of the Biennale of Sydney, has been announced as a finalist in the Australian Financial Review’s Women of Leadership Awards today.

This recognition highlights Moore’s visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to nurturing this platform for bold contemporary art and the celebration of ideas. Since stepping into the role of CEO in 2019, Moore has led the Biennale of Sydney through a period of significant growth, ensuring free, open access to extraordinary art experiences for hundreds of thousands of people.

In response to the nomination Barbara Moore said “It’s an incredible honour to be named a finalist among so many inspiring women. Leadership, to me, is about empathy, curiosity and creating space for others to thrive. I’ve learned that being a CEO isn’t about control — it’s about service. I hope this recognition shines a light on the transformative power of leading with heart, and the importance of building strong, trusted communities around you.”

Moore’s nomination is not only a testament to her leadership within the arts and culture sector, but also to the power of collaboration, community, and cultural diplomacy at a global level. Congratulations, Barbara!

The Biennale of Sydney congratulates Board member Anne Flanagan on being awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her significant contribution to the arts, particularly the museums and galleries sector.

Flanagan is one of the country’s most respected cultural leaders, known for her vision, integrity and decades-long impact. As former Deputy Director of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, she played a vital role in shaping some of the institution’s most important initiatives, from the creation of the Yiribana Gallery to the development of the Gallery’s expansion masterplan. Her recognition is richly deserved, and we are honoured to work alongside her.
