The 22nd Biennale of Sydney is open at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) from 16 June – 6 September 2020.
Located at Sydney’s iconic Circular Quay, the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) is Australia’s pre-eminent art museum devoted to collecting and exhibiting the work of contemporary artists. The MCA has been a partner of the Biennale of Sydney since 1998. In 2018, the MCA hosts major components of the Biennale exhibition across two floors of the Museum.
Entry is free and unticketed. The MCA will not be using timed ticketing, however, they will be carefully monitoring numbers and will introduce this if it becomes necessary.

Getting There

The MCA is located on Circular Quay West, Sydney, and is easily accessible by public transport. The Museum is a short walk from all major transport stops.

What's open

Visitors will be able to access the 22nd Biennale of Sydney: NIRIN exhibition (Levels 1 and 3), the MCA Cafe and Sculpture Terrace (Level 4) and the MCA Store (Level 1). Graze Restaurant opens on 30 June.

What's closed

The exhibition MCA Collection: Today Tomorrow Yesterday, the information desk, cloakroom, Members Lounge, library, lost property (valuables can be collected next door from The Rocks police station) and the National Centre for Creative Learning will remain closed to visitors.
There are presently no public tours and no late nights on Wednesdays. Public programs, access programs and events are online only.

What the MCA is doing for you – health and safety
-
The priority is to keep visitors and staff safe. The MCA's health and safety measures include:
- Separate entry and exit doors – enter the Museum through the George Street entrance and exit through to Circular Quay.
- Each occupied space within the Museum has a maximum capacity of 1 person per 4 square metres – please follow staff instructions.
- Enhanced daily cleaning regimes, including hourly sanitisation of frequently used spaces with disinfectant.
- Ensuring adequate handwashing facilities and sanitiser is available.
- Signage throughout the building to encourage physical distancing of 1.5 metres.
- No cash – card transactions only (MCA Store and MCA Cafe).
- No cloakroom – bags and equipment larger than cabin size (55 x 40 x 20 cm) are not permitted in the Museum. Please make other arrangements.
- No lost property service – valuables can be collected from The Rocks police station next door to the Museum.
- No paper leaflets.
- MCA Cafe contact tracing – customer contact information will be kept for a period of 28 days for the process of tracing COVID-19 infections. Information will be stored confidentially and securely.
- All MCA Hosts have completed COVID-19 safety training.
- Wheelchair loan available – call in advance where possible so we may sanitise between use.
- The MCA will continue to follow the NSW Government health guidelines and will update procedures as necessary.

What you can do for the MCA – health and safety

- Please don’t visit the Museum if you feel unwell, have experienced symptoms of COVID-19 including a fever and sore throat in the last 14 days, or have returned from overseas in the last 14 days.
- Please keep at least 1.5 metres from others.
- Observe lift limits – use the stairs if you can.
- Allow less-mobile visitors to use elevators first or consider using the stairs.
- Do not touch the artworks.
- Bring a credit or debit card for purchases in the MCA Cafe and MCA Store (we will not accept cash).
- Don’t bring large bags or items. The cloakroom is closed. Bags and equipment larger than cabin size (55 x 40 x 20 cm) will not be permitted in the Museum.
- Please carry any bags at your side or on your front.
- Cloak tall umbrellas in the tubs provided (at your own risk) and put short umbrellas in your bag.
- Use hand-sanitiser provided and wash your hands with soap in the restrooms.
- Queue where indicated and go elsewhere in the building if a space has too many people.
- Cough and sneeze into your elbow or a tissue, and put the tissue in a bin.
- Consider downloading the COVIDSafe app.
- Listen out for gallery closing announcements – some gallery spaces may close earlier than 5 pm to maintain physical distancing.
- During your visit, you might be asked to queue, wait or come back later if necessary.
Visitors who do not comply with these conditions will not be admitted or will be asked to leave the Museum to ensure the safety of all visitors and staff.
