Tarryn Gill
Australia
Through a multidisciplinary visual arts and theatre practice, Tarryn Gill explores the conscious and unconscious, contemporary and ancient, personal and collective. Gill’s theatrical aesthetics, materials and processes are informed by her background of 20 years in dance and competitive calisthenics. Her soft sculptures draw on the camp material language of her costumes: sequins, stockings and metallic lycra hand stitched and stretched over carved foam, evoking ancient bronze or stone. Drawing on the performing body, the male gaze, and the monstrous feminine, Gill embraces a dark humour to reclaim the feminine force.
