As a part of Biennale of Sydney`s collaboration with the @sydneyoperahouse and @fondationcartier, First Nations artwork is projected on the Sydney Opera House’s eastern Bennelong sails nightly all year long. Featuring the work of the late Bidjigal elder Esme Timbery and two of her children, Marilyn Russell and Steven Russell and artist Joseca Mokahesi Yanomami of the Yanomami people. PAIA is Ngaiire’s most visceral and transcendent work yet—an eruption of rage, sex, ecstasy, ceremony, ancestry, and cleansing. Rooted in the Tok Pisin word for “fire,” PAIA is both a reckoning and a prophecy, fusing music, dance, and visuals into a blazing, multi-sensory experience.
Collaborating with multi-award-winning director Dino Dimitriadis, Ngaiire draws from her Papua New Guinean heritage to transform her stage at Vivid Sydney at Carriageworks into a ritual of movement, sound, and storytelling. PAIA is an invitation to surrender to the flames—an experience that will haunt, heal, and ignite.

Friday night saw the ‘Revive and Resist’ documentary privately screened at Golden Age Cinema, honouring @tonyalbert, the inaugural Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain First Nations Curatorial Fellow. The screening was followed by a conversation between Tony and @brucejohnsonmclean, the newly appointed Fellow who will continue the important task of working closely with First Nations artists to bring their creative visions to life in the 2026 edition of the Biennale.
‘Revive and Resist’ follows the creative journeys of 14 of the most visionary First Nations artists from around the globe. As a Visionary Partner, @fondationcartier collaborated to commission these artists who crafted extraordinary works for the 2024 Biennale of Sydney, “Ten Thousand Suns”, a ground-breaking exhibition curated by Artistic Directors Cosmin Costinas and Inti Guerrero. The documentary highlights the artists unique approaches, cultural legacies, and the profound storytelling embedded in their work, offering an intimate look at how these trailblazers challenge, inspire, and expand contemporary art.
